A Christian conference for health professionals & final year students

Persevere To Serve is an annual day conference held by ECU to encourage Christian health professionals to persevere in living out and proclaiming the Lordship of Christ in their workplaces. This year we will be thinking about Humanity, Spirituality and Christ-Centred health care. We are always being pushed to consider the “whole person” in Health care. From the bio-psycho-social model, the ICF, to person centred practice… but in the last 20 years “Spirituality” has been increasingly used in Health internationally and is gaining a place in most of our dominant health care models. So how do we engage with the “spirituality” of our patients as Christians? What does the Bible have to say about “Spirituality”? How does God think about the "whole person"? Can the concept of Spirituality in Health care enable us to speak about Jesus to patients, and so provide better care?

  • Peter Jensen  is a well known theologian and evangelical leader. He will help us think theologically about the topic.
  • Heather So is the President of the Christian Occupational Therapist Fellowship Australia (COTFA) and works in a Paediatric private practice in Sydney.  She has thought much about spirituality, the main OT models and putting it into practice, and will lead a workshop which considers both care for patients/clients and the issue of sharing your faith in the work setting.
  • Martin Ma, a physiotherapist and committed Christian has been caring for the whole person in private practice for some years, borne out of deep personal conviction. His workshop will focus on his own experience with opportunities for Q&A and further discussion.

The day includes a main session, lunch, workshops and prayer. There are opportunities to share, network, and pray with other Christians working in the same discipline or geographic area.

All Christian health professionals are welcome! A short ECU update will be given about the ministry of ECU-Cumberland to help grads be informed as they pray for and support the work of the gospel at Cumberland campus.
